It is with profound honour and privilege that I extend my engagement as the founding President of the Association of TCI & TIVA Anaesthesiologists of India (AOTTA). The confluence of Anaesthesiologists from diverse regions across India within this society underscores the dynamic evolution of Anaesthesiology as a discipline. Over recent decades, substantial transformations in the administration of anaesthesia and pain relief have transpired, characterized by an augmented understanding of physiological intricacies, pathophysiological dynamics, pharmaceutical interventions along with the integration of technology and advanced modalities of drug delivery.

Our collective journey within this society transcends a mere trajectory; it represents a profound odyssey marked by profound understanding, collaborative spirit, innovative endeavours, and an unwavering commitment to progress in the domain of Total Intravenous Anaesthesia (TIVA) and Target-Controlled Infusion (TCI) techniques.

As we embark on this transformative endeavour, let us first acknowledge the revolutionary impact of Total Intravenous Anaesthesia, particularly through the integration of Target-Controlled Infusion within the realm of Anaesthesiology. TCI signifies not merely an evolutionary step but a paradigmatic shift in our approach to administering anaesthesia, affording unparalleled precision, control, and, most significantly, improved patient outcomes.

Traditionally, the term “anaesthesia” has been synonymous with the inhalation of anaesthetic vapours to induce and maintain unconsciousness. However, recent years have witnessed a remarkable surge in the field of intravenous anaesthesia, reflected not only in the diversity of pharmaceutical agents employed but also in the development of advanced Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic models. These models deepen our understanding of drug behaviour within the body and refine the methods through which they are delivered.

The strides in TCI technology provide an unprecedented level of control over drug administration, allowing for the tailoring of anaesthesia to the unique needs of each patient with unmatched precision and accuracy.
